HTC to Launch First Windows Phone 7 device by late 2010

This week has been quite an incredible and pleasant one specially if you are a mobile phone enthusiast, since it featured the CTIA event which was full of major mobile phone announcements such as the HTC EVO 4G, Samsung Galaxy S Phone and so on. Guess who launched HTC EVO 4G? It was none other than Peter Chou, the CEO HTC. It turns out that Mr Chou was not only there to announce the first 4G device. He had some Windows Phone 7 news as well.

Peter Chou revealed that HTC’s first Windows Phone 7 device is coming by the end of 2010, a news that many had been impatiently waiting for. Unfortunately, that was as far as the CEO went regarding his company’s plan for the next iteration of Windows Mobile devices.

The CEO, however did praise the efforts that Microsoft put into Windows Phone 7 and seemed pretty upbeat and excited about the changes that the Redmondians incorporated into their next mobile platform. He stated:

They're putting in tremendous effort to make Windows Phone 7 very appealing and competitive

As you can tell from the statement, the CEO is pretty much happy with the proceedings which possibly is an indication of us getting to see more Windows Phone 7 Series devices from the Taiwanese cell phone manufacturers in the not so distant future. By the way have you guessed the name of the first Windows Phone 7 device that HTC will launch by the end of this year.

Is Sania Mirza Marrying Shoaib Malik?

Is Sania Mirza Marrying Shoaib Malik?
Indian tennis star Sania Mirza is engaged to former Pakistan cricket captain Shoaib Malik and they might tie the knot next month, claimed a television channel here.
Geo television reported today that the two sporting superstars have got engaged and their marriage would take place in April.

Incidentally, Shoaib was earlier accused of marrying another Hyderabad girl, Ayesha Siddiqui, in 2002 over phone even though the cricketer said he was merely engaged to her.

PTA Should Block Local Porn Sites, if Not All

What to Do?

Ban all those porn websites that are run/operated/used by local people. It must be noted that there are many websites that are run by users in India, Bangladesh and vicinity, but their usage is high in Pakistan too, so block all these websites

One may ask me, that there are millions of websites on internet, PTA can’t block them all – Okay fine, don’t block million websites, but how about those couple of dozen websites that share 95 percent of traffic?

Given that PTA has the capabilities for blocking these websites (through ISPs) and if local porn websites are still allowed then following quote reveals some meanings to us.

“If you are not part of solution, then you are part of Problem”

Let’s hope some action on this in near future.

Musharraf’s comeback

For the briefest of moments, again within the ambit of power politics, Citizen Pervez Musharraf told (two) jokes, set out his stall to succeed Asif Zardari, and proposed a Shaggy reading of Pakistani history: It Wasn’t Me. All this while speaking at Chatham House and the Georgian St James’s townhouse where once lived Gladstone and Pitt the Elder. It is one of a pair of engagements, for a general on a visitor’s visa whose London residence was meant to be short. Next Tuesday, he follows his July parliamentary appearance in the House of Commons with a sequel, in the Lords, as guest of Conservative life peer Lord Sheikh. On Monday, when Musharraf spoke, the overflow room was overflowing. To say that the audience was fawning would be inaccurate – it was along the spectrum between ‘obsequious’ and ‘obeisant’. Speaking for an hour from infrequently consulted handwritten notes, the talk seemed like an interview for two positions: the one he has already held, and Pundit-Supreme interpreting Pakistan to Anglo-America. Musharraf was always going to be described as the Pakistan Army’s ambassador to London. Now, though, he can flesh this penchant into a political theory and justification of (past and prospective) rule. Democratically elected governments, he says, have been failing to perform the objectives of government, offering good governance, and ensuring the well-being of the people. If these aren’t being achieved, governments, whether democratic or military, must be changed. Compared with civilians, Musharraf adds, the military are possessed of “better trained minds, and better administrative capacity.” But the general concedes that the civilian government must learn to perform. Musharraf has no doubt – he does not seem a man much given to self-doubt – that Pakistan’s way forward lies in the “integration of the political forces, political parties, army, and bureaucracy,” and “unity of thought” between these entities. And then he sets out his wares: “Clearly, I love my country. I would do anything for my country. I took an oath when I passed out of the military academy to go anywhere when ordered to serve Pakistan, even at threat to my life.” The ungenerous might see a nod at Benazir Bhutto in that comment. “I want for the people of Pakistan to understand – I am a civilian now, I am not a military man. I cannot take over anything.” There is laughter, then the pay-off: “Electorally, I think I will have that legitimacy I never had. Then if one unites army and bureaucracy, with legitimacy of political process … that is for the people of Pakistan to decide.” In Musharrafland, perhaps it all seems possible. He did, after all, encourage nazims facing the unemployment queue in Zardari’s local government reforms to visit him abroad last year, declaring he would advocate for their continuance in office. It may be telling that he traces Afghanistan’s bloodshed to the elimination of its monarch, a glue that held an ethnically fractious people together. In general, the West ought to have listened to the general: “In 2003, when I was going down a political path, all the West said I was double-crossing and double-dealing.” They still have their chance to hear Musharraf out, with him now conveniently in London. He trots out his credentials for punditry: Afghanistan and the tribal regions of Pakistan are the centre of gravity for all extremism and radical thought, from the Maghreb to Somalia and Yemen to western China. British and American telly viewers can come aboard, says Muhsarraf, inviting you to (and here his second joke) “the most happening place in the world, where there’s never a dull moment.” Without such a sound local guide as him, he tut-tuts, western adventurers will make blunders; for example, treating all Pathans as Taliban – “I always said there was a need for a policy change.” His prescription for Afghanistan betrays a presumption that there is only one sector to an economy: the military. He advocates for the arming of lashkars and building up of the Afghan National Army, underneath a government more responsive to Pathans, and buttressed by an Anglo-American military commitment tied to results rather than timeframe. “When we create lashkars and the ANA,” he says, “we create jobs – these people need jobs.” Kashmir, meanwhile, is a hat-trick: Musharraf demonstrates first-name affability with a world leader (complimenting Manmohan Singh on his vision and sincerity), states he was close to resolving the long-standing dispute, and (in a backswipe at his successor) he argues that a leader capable of doing so would possess the three qualities of “sincerity, open-mindedness, and boldness.” Musharraf concludes that the unsolved wound of Kashmir, wanting a leader’s suture, together with a militia-arming caused by the West’s blundering abandonment in 1989-2001 of Pakistan(’s army), is the root of all Pakistani extremism. It wasn’t him, indeed. Perhaps it is as a Pakistani immigrant in Britain that Musharraf never seems quite at ease with the first person plural: ‘we’ fluctuates, for Musharraf-the-public-speaker, between Pakistan, the West, and “the free world, with Pakistan at its lead.” In September, the Guardian’s Declan Walsh profiled Musharraf in his “unassuming three-bedroom flat” beside Edgware Road’s shisha bars and kebab joints. It seems the former general has now made it to Westminster. It wasn’t me.

Yahoo-Microsoft deal set, taking aim at Google

U.S. and European regulators have cleared the long-discussed Internet search partnership between Microsoft Corp. and Yahoo Inc., enabling the rivals to form a tag team as they try to mount a more serious challenge to Google Inc. The government approvals announced on Thursday anointed an alliance that Microsoft and Yahoo proposed nearly seven months ago after years of flirtation and often contentious negotiations. Microsoft first approached Yahoo about working together in late 2006 and again in 2007. In 2008, Microsoft launched a hostile bid to buy Yahoo in its entirety, only to withdraw the $47.5 billion offer in exasperation. Microsoft is counting on the 10-year deal with Yahoo to provide more muscle as it tries to counter Google’s domination of the lucrative Internet search market. The companies make money by charging advertisers to pay to have their links appear when people search for certain terms. While gaining access to Yahoo’s Internet search audience and advertisers is bound to help, it could still prove to be too little, too late. The U.S. Department of Justice and European Commission had no problems with Microsoft and Yahoo working together largely because Google is so far ahead of them in the lucrative Internet search market. Microsoft has been making some minor strides in the United States since it overhauled its search engine and renamed it Bing last summer. But the progress has primarily come at Yahoo’s expense. It’s going to take a while before all the pieces of the complex Microsoft-Yahoo deal will be in place. The companies hope Microsoft’s technology will be ready to start processing search requests that people enter on Yahoo’s U.S. site by the end of this year. But getting everything ready around the rest of the world is expected to take until 2012. Yahoo figures to make more money from the deal because it allows the company to keep 88 per cent of the revenue from search ads on its website during the first five years, while Microsoft absorbs most of the expenses. Yahoo estimates the partnership eventually could boost its annual operating profit by $500 million. The financial gains aren’t expected to start flowing to Yahoo until next year. To start, Yahoo will get $150 million from Microsoft to help offset its expenses for the transition to a new technology. The payments will be made in instalments, with the first checks due before April. Microsoft will also take on about 400 of Yahoo’s 13,900 employees, with the first transfers expected to take place this year. “Although we are just at the beginning of this process, we have reached an exciting milestone,” Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer said. “I believe that together, Microsoft and Yahoo will promote more choice, better value and greater innovation to our customers as well as to advertisers and publishers.” Even though Microsoft’s technology will be steering things, Yahoo insists its search results and advertising won’t be identical to what’s served up on Bing. Yahoo can still shape the presentation of the results. “This breakthrough search alliance means Yahoo can focus even more on our own innovative search experience,” said CEO Carol Bartz.

UK space industry: boldly growing a £40bn business

Even with their relatively low profile in the industrial landscape, UK space companies are already winning significant amounts of business. Inmarsat's satellites provided lines of communication after the earthquake in Haiti, allowing aid agencies to co-ordinate efforts. The company's system was also used after the similar disaster in Sichuan region of China in 2008, when the premier of the region said Inmarsat's satellites were the only thing working.

Microsoft Outlook to integrate Facebook, MySpace and LinkedIn

The technology company has launched a test version of the ‘Outlook Social Connector’, which is the add-on tool developed to allow users to pull in the latest feeds from their networks. Yesterday, the beta software was updated to allow members of the business networking site LinkedIn, to have the latest updates pulled through to their Outlook accounts.Microsoft is also working with both Facebook and MySpace to ensure that the social connector includes feeds from their sites – which Microsoft says will be ready in time for the next version of Office 2010, going on sale in June. Outlook Officer group product manager, Dev Balasubramanian, said, on a video posted on Microsoft’s website: “It really is about bringing friends, family and colleagues into you inbox. As you communicate with them you can see their social activities; you can see all of the folks in your social network and it updates as you are reading your email.” The LinkedIn plug-in allows its members using Outlook to see any status changes, contact information updates and link-ups going on between members. Elliot Shmukler, the network’s product manager, described Outlook as the “professional inbox” and said it was a clear match with the professional network. The software update will be included in the latest version of Office 2010. However, those users with Office 2003 and 2007, can download the updated ‘Outlook Social Connector’ in beta to try out before making a purchase. It will also allow Outlook to perform more like a social network itself. For example, if an email-sender and recipient are working on the same document, they can save it in a shared place, called the Sharepoint server, and then both will be able to see whenever one of them updates the material. However, the technology does not allow Outlook users to push information out from their email program onto their various networks. Will Kennedy, a corporate vice president for the Office group, told Associated Press, that some of Microsoft’s business customers are concerned that this will be a big distraction for their employees. But he remains confident that such additional tools will speed up and improve office communication and not have the opposite effect.

Google integrates MySpace updates to become more 'real-time'

After announcing the deal in December 2009, the integration has now gone live. The results will show live updates from MySpace users including news, photos, music and blog posts that people had selected to make public, ranking the results by the most relevant.

Mike Jones, the recently promoted co-president of MySpace, said on the company’s blog: “This partnership increases our users’ ability to share and showcase content across the open Web and gives people outside the MySpace network even more ways to discover new content“Beginning today, when you search for anything on Google, as part of your search results you will see live updates from MySpace users, including news, photos, and blog posts that they have chosen to publicly publish. Further, all of these updates will be ranked to reflect the freshest, most relevant results, making it easier to find the latest information on anything you're searching for on Google, including the music and artists you enjoy most.”

Google has already integrated real-time updates from Twitter and is working on the best way to deliver these results in order to enrich the search experience.

Last year, the increasing popularity of Twitter, started to make the search engine seem slow and unable to serve the latest updates on fast-moving stories in real-time. During last summer's protests in Iran, for example, a Google search on the country delivered Iran’s Wikipedia entry or a recent news article about the clashes. However, a search on Twitter showed the latest news from the people on the streets of Tehran as events unfolded.

This led to both Google and Microsoft’s Bing, partnering with Twitter, MySpace and Facebook, in order to make their searches more relevant and faster

Control what Buzz says about you on the web

Google's new social service Buzz showed up suddenly in everyone's Gmail accounts this week, and right away it wanted to get you connected with the people you contact over email and chat the most. Before you let it turn you loose, though, consider whether you want the world to see exactly who you "follow." Google has since improved the on/off visibility, but if you want to make sure you're not broadcasting your inbox to the web at large, we suggest visiting your profile and checking your follower counts. If you don't see a profile at all, or don't see the followed/following numbers, you're likely in the clear, but as with many aspects of Buzz in this early stage, you can't be too careful. And when you actually start using the thing, be careful not to broadcast private email addresses yourself.

Back up Google apps' data

Google's new Data Liberation Front is designed to help you liberate your data from any Google service with as little pain as possible, so you're not locked into Gmail, for example, just because all your old email is there.

It's easy to fall in love with a great service and completely forget about the importance of controlling your own data. The Data Liberation Front is a team at Google that aims to keep your data free and accessible so you can move to any service you want—Google or not—ideally because you like it, not because you feel trapped there. From the Google Public Policy blog:

Imagine you want to move out of your apartment. When you ask your landlord about the terms of your previous lease, he says that you are free to leave at any time; however, you cannot take all of your things with you - not your photos, your keepsakes, or your clothing. If you're like most people, a restriction like this may cause you to rethink moving altogether. Not only is this a bad situation for you as the tenant, but it's also detrimental to the housing industry as a whole, which no longer has incentive to build better apartments at all.

Although this may seem like a strange analogy, this pretty accurately describes the situation my team, Google's Data Liberation Front, is working hard to combat from an engineering perspective. We're a small team of Google Chicago engineers (named after a Monty Python skit about the Judean People's Front) that aims to make it easy for our users to transfer their personal data in and out of Google's services by building simple import and export functions. Our goal is to "liberate" data so that consumers and businesses using Google products always have a choice when it comes to the technology they use.

Right now the site demonstrates the easiest way to liberate your data from Google services ranging from Blogger and Calendar to Gmail, Reader, and YouTube. The site isn't just about how to escape from Google services, though. It also details how to bring your data to Google apps from other web services.

Even though most people don't give it all that much thought, data lock-in is a serious issue—it's why we rounded up several free tools to back up your online accounts just last month. Google's apps still aren't perfect on this front, but hopefully this initiative will improve their data export capabilities as well as set a good example for other companies.

Turn off Search History, logged in or not

If you're logged into Google for Gmail or any other service, there's a good chance Google's keeping tabs on all your searches, months after you made them. If you aren't logged in, Google's probably still tracking and personalizing your searches based on what you previously typed in. This one-stop solution should work for most users, but if it doesn't, log into Google and head to google.com/history. A notice at the top will tell you if you've "paused" or otherwise stopped your search history, or else you'll see your recent searches listed with dates and times. You can clear out this history by hitting the "Remove items" link on the left. If you aren't logged in, look for the "Web History" link in the upper-right corner. From there, you can choose whether Google tracks your searches via cookie and IP address and customizes your results.

Link and integrate your apps

Taking off the privacy and preference hat for a moment, Google's apps have a lot of neat settings just beneath their surface that make using them all together a tight experience. You can turn emails into tasks, and then map those tasks on your calendar. You can send voice messages and SMS from Google Voice to Gmail, and mark them as read when you open them there. Gina previously ran down seven easy ways to integrate your Google apps, and even more seem to come along every week.

Set your default SMS location

You already know that you can get quick local search results from your phone with Google SMS for the price of a text message, but the service is a helluva lot more usable now that you can set your default location. Just send a text to Google SMS (466453) with set location [city, zip code, address]. Now when you want to perform weather, movies, or restaurant look-ups via Google SMS, you can just text, for example, weather rather than weather 90210. Much more convenient!

Disable SafeSearch (or lock it in semi-permanently)

Google's SafeSearch isn't an entirely comprehensive solution to preventing impressionable eyes from the worst realms of the internet. It is, however, a good stopgap until they learn to grow up and install other browsers, wipe out cookies, and customize user scripts. Whether you don't have any young ones in the house and want to turn SafeSearch off altogether or you want a complete SafeSearch lockdown on your computer, head to your search preferences, scroll down to the SafeSearch section, and find the setting that fits you. (In Google Image Search, they've helpfully placed the control right under the search box on your first result.) If you want to permanently enable SafeSearch, click the "Lock SafeSearch" link—and repeat for any browsers the little ones use. Now when they're performing a Google search, you should see some giant Google-colored balls in the upper-right corner—or else they've gotten too smart.

Turn off Buzz, Chat, and Labs in Gmail

Not big on Buzz? Chat more distracting than useful? Gmail Labs making your inbox feel lag-ish? You can kill all of them, if you'd like, and get back just a plain vanilla inbox. Scroll all the way to the bottom of any page inside Gmail, and at the bottom, you'll see two links to turn Gmail's chat sidebar and Buzz inbox on or off. Actually, you don't really "turn off Buzz" so much as remove it from your inbox, so be sure and check your Buzz settings at your Google Profile, if you have a Google Profile. If Labs features seem to be slowing down, or even breaking, your Gmail experience, you can turn them off entirely by loading Gmail from this URL: https://mail.google.com/mail/?labs=0#. Bookmark it as your main Gmail link, or title it "Gmail (Safe Mode)" if you'd like to still venture into all the goodies on occasion.

Prevent Android from automatically signing into Gchat

Do you get inopportune IM chats on your Android phone, even if you haven't activated the Google Talk application? There's a setting in the app that always makes you available. Here's how to turn it off.

The Tech Recipes blog points out the semi-hidden setting in Google Talk. Fire up the application, hit the Menu button, then choose Settings. Un-check the "Automatically sign in" option, hit your back button, and then hit Menu and sign out of Google Talk. Now you're only signed in and receiving chats when you consciously activate Google Talk.

From experience, many Google Talk chatters aren't using Gmail to access you, and can't see the little Android icon indicating you might not be at your computer, but at the grocery store instead. Unless you're in love with your notification sounds, turning off the auto-chat feature is probably a good move to make.

Fine-tune Google Apps for your domain

Google Apps, formerly know as Apps for Your Domain, has a lot of goodies tucked inside it for anyone who owns their own site, runs a family name domain, or operates a small business. Unlike Gmail, however, the new features and disabled offerings aren't as apparent (or blogged about). Gina gave us a great tour of Google Apps, showing how you can control privacy and access, choose which Labs features make it into your domain's email, and otherwise set up your site to your liking.

Turn off auto-displayed pictures from Gmail contacts

By default, Gmail tries to protect your email from spammers by blocking images in emails until you tell it to show them. That's nice and all, but it's a bit annoying when you want to see images from your contacts. Today Gmail changes that.

Now, instead of blocking all images by default until you click on the Display images below or Always display images from X links, Gmail will display images by default from your contacts (right now, contacts is defined by anyone who you've emailed at least twice, though that number is subject to change). It's a small but nice update, especially if you've grown tired of manually enabling images from contacts time and again.

On the other hand, if you don't like seeing images from a particular person or as your default, you can disable image display for individual senders or everyone, too. Here's how:

[C]lick "Don't display from now on" under the "Show details" link of an email from them with images. To disable images from everybody, select "Ask before displaying external content" under "External content" on the general Settings tab.

Good to know.

FlipSync Charges and Syncs Your USB Device, Fits on Your Keychain

Charged and synced portable devices keep us connected and get us through the day, so it's extremely annoying when you need to connect but don't have the right cord nearby. FlipSync puts one on your keychain for iPhones and generic USB devices.

There's not much else to know about these keychain-friendly gadgets. They're about the size of a key fob, and they come in two versions—one with micro and mini-USB connectors that'll work with most USB devices, the other with an iPhone/iPod connector.

ChromiumOS Flow Adds Hardware Support, Customized Menus, and More

Hexxeh, creator of the easiest way to test out Google's Chrome OS, has updated his unofficial ChromiumOS build to automatically update, support more video and Wi-Fi hardware, use webcams, and offer menu customization. All it needs is a 2 GB USB stick.

That's all it needs to boot, but whether it sings or just struggles depends on your hardware. It's also a pretty hefty 327 MB download, straight from a server at the moment, but it might be the last time you'll have to download for a while. Automatic updates, which were being beta tested in a previous update, are now set up by default, so you won't have to re-flash your USB drive when Hexxeh pushes another update.

Need a primer on what Chrome/Chromium OS is all about? Head back to our first glimpse from Google's announcement. Hit the link for a summation of what else is new in Flow, and tell us how it works on your own system in the comments

OreObject Thinks You Need A Ball-Shaped Steel Mouse

This is the OreObject SPHEREtouch mouse. It's basically an overpriced touch-sensitive ball. It doesn't matter that it's handcrafted out of steel, titanium, or platinum because it still looks more like a tacky paperweight than like a mouse.

Depending on your choice of material, the SPHEREtouch's price will range from $155 to $255. Sorry, but all the "balls of steel" jokes in the world aren't enough to make that a decent price for an oddly-shaped mouse with questionable ergonomics that doesn't even have Bluetooth.

Chrome OS Tablet Demo Offers a Peek at What a Chrome Tablet Might Look Like

Last week Apple announced their new tablet, the iPad, and whether or not you were keen on the device (46% of you were completely uninterested), you may still be interested in this concept demo of Google's open-source Chromium OS, tablet-ized.

Chrome OS's lead designer Glen Murphy (who I believe is also a UI designer on Google Chrome the browser) posted the concept video below to the official Chromium OS site.

Remember that the demo is just a mockup, and that neither the device nor the tablet-friendly version of Chrome OS exist. Still, for people interested in a future of tablet computing, between the iPad, Chrome OS, and the other tablets that are looking to come to market this year running regular old desktop operating systems made touch-friendly, that future is looking bright. Hit the link below for a closer look at some UI image mockups like the keyboard idea above.

The Palm Vx's Graffiti (1999)
The Palm Treo 650's hardware QWERTY keyboard (2004)
The Apple iPhone 3G's software QWERTY keyboard (2009)

To test the speed of input I was going to use the same piece of text for each one. I also wanted to use some text I could memorise, so I didn't have to pause typing/writing to look up, and the later tests wouldn't benefit from my increasing knowledge of the text.
His results:

Congratulations, full-size keyboard! Gyford is fully aware that his test isn't exactly scientific, and it probably doesn't apply to you, but it did get us wondering: What's your best input method? Share your fastest and favorite input method in the comments.

Portland Government Plans 200-ft. Tall Energy-Saving Plant Wall

Portland, Oregon is so into the green movement that they're going to cover their federal building from ground floor to rooftop with a 200-ft. wall made from living, breathing vegetation.

The living wall is more than just a pretty facade, however, as city officials claim it will lead to savings of about $280,000 per year in energy costs. Add in some solar panels (also part of the overall $133 million plan), and the building will use about 60-65% less energy than a similar-sized office.

And, being a plant, the multi-fin wall is seasonal. Designers say that in the summer its foliage will provide cooling shade; in the winter months the wall will thin, providing light when the weather cooperates.

One issue yet to be tackled by architects is irrigation. Rainwater from the roof is one suggestion, while water recycled from the building's plumbing is another.

Another issue is cost. Senators John McCain of Arizona and Tom Coburn of Oklahoma have both criticized the project for being a complete waste of economic stimulus money (see also: The Bridge to Nowhere). Even so, the project is on track for completion in 2013.

Jahil Online

am sure you all must know of our famous MNA cum TV personality Dr. Aamir Liaqat Hussain. For the past few months rumors have been circulating that he is a fake doctor finally I have evidence. In a detailed investigation conducted by a local newspaper ‘Ummat‘ and recently published in South Asia Tribune, some really interesting fact have indeed come forth surely worth a NAB ‘chappa’.

Dr. Aamir appears to be one of the biggest local scams of Pakistan. For the past couple years he has been the host of ‘Aalim Online‘ on Geo TV where he brings together Islamic Scholars to shed light on the religion of Islam. I have always disliked watching the show as it always appeared as a scam, a snazzy looking Dr. Aamir preaching Islam some how irritated me, but that’s just me, I have for sometime labeled his show as Jahil Online. It now appears to be entirely true. Dr. Aamir had been preaching Islam with such authority that it had the nation fooled for years including our General who has appointed him as a Minister of Religious Affairs (probably in a deal with MQM)

He has graduated from ‘Trinity College and University‘ with a Bachelors of Arts in Islamic Studies (conferred on March 17, 1995). The next degree that he allegedly pursued was a Masters of Arts in Islamic Studies (conferred on March 15, 2002) and amazingly 20 days later was awarded a doctorate, Doctor of Philosophy in Islamic Studies (conferred on April 5, 2002). All these degrees were awarded by Trinity College based out of Spain. The going rate for these ‘degrees by mail’ as published on the Trinity College website (link) is
Bachelors = $ 212
Masters = $ 332
Doctorate= $ 500
Or a one time deal all three degrees for a bumper price of $ 850

Trinity College on its webpage claims the following slogans "providing degrees based on your previous life" and the best slogan "No Residency or Attendance is required in Spain Everything by Mail"

Dr. (Fake) Aamir Liaquat Hussain contested the National Assembly elections based on these degrees and successfully won, he stands to be disqualified for providing fake degrees to support his candidacy (which as you all recall was strictly limited to graduates). The Higher Education Commission Pakistan has also declare in a letter that Trinity College is not a authorized degree awarding university. How can it be since its just one of those online stores that awards these degrees. Check these pictures out as they sure are incriminating evidence.

I leave you with considerable evidence, for you to decide
Update 13th March: In a Google search of our fake Aalim I came across this interview from Daily Times

Daily Times: What are your predictions about the Pakistani politics?

Aamir Liaqat: I am really disappointed with the Pakistani politics. The biggest despondency is the involvement of Maulvis in the mainstream politics, who are raising local issues at national levels. I am not hopeful with the national politics. The politicians of my country fight only for their own interests. I request General Musharraf to give me a chartered plane, and I would take all the politicians to Iraq. Then I would ask all those who claim to be great Muslims to come out and fight against the anti-Islam forces. If I could not take the airplane to Iraq, then I will destroy it in the sea. I would sacrifice my own life for this noble cause.

I am foreseeing a bloody revolution. Sorry to say, the democracy would bring nothing better in this country. Pakistan needs a bloody revolution. A person is required here, who will eliminate all the politicians once for all, and then intelligent and young people of Pakistan will come forward to lead the nation. I fear that in revolution the geographical situation might also change.

Alexa Global Rankings – Yahoo Down – FaceBook Up

Alexa is known to be authentic source of website’s rank as per traffic basis. People look forward to alexa to reckon the performance of a site. Yahoo was ruling as World’s No. 1 site on visitor’s basis and Google was 2nd, but earlier Google Conquered the battle and came to No. 1 by pushing Yahoo to 2. This time Yahoo faces another fall and Facebook defeats yahoo to attain number 3 and FaceBook owns number 2.

Alexa stats are updated on regular basis, and are thought to be authentic. For a long time the usual stats were, Yahoo at First, Google Second, YouTube Third and MSN was at number four. These stats were thought be maintained for a long time, perceeding other famous sites as Orkut, WikiPedia, Myspace and Facebook.

But then we seen a jump when Google jumped to Number One, Pushing Yahoo to Two and Number three was for YouTube.

This is the time when we must say – Real defaet to Yahoo by Facebook.

Complete list of Top 500 websites can be found here.

Facebook progresses to number 2 kicking Yahoo to 3. And other giant MSN on number 9 and a Big defeat to Orkut by Facebook, Orkut was previously at 7, 8 but now see Orkut not even in Top 100 Most Visited sites – more precisely, having a rank of 112.

Now this is what we must say real Work and Progress . Facebook is now everywhere on net, even almost all sites think it as a must to have FaceBook fan page. Facebook is currently ruling the stage.

Call Me via VoIP on Facebook – A New App

8×8 Inc., a Voice over Internet Protocol service provider, has released a new point-and-click VoIP calling application dubbed 8×8 Connect. It allows Facebook users to add a “Call Me” button to their home page, thereby enabling other users to call them without revealing their actual phone number.

“The application asks the person making the call to enter the phone number they wish to place the call from, calls that number and then automatically rings the Facebook user at a number they previously set as their preferred contact number,” the company explained in a press release.

Facebook app can be accessed here.

This app could be especially helpful for small business owners and consultants, who could use it as a way to generate interest in the products/services they’re selling.

FaceBook to Build it’s Own Data Center

Facebook to build its first data center, a 147,000-square-foot server farm to be located in Prineville, Ore. The social networking company didn’t disclose what it will cost to build, but according to public records dug up by The Bend Bulletin, the project would be valued at $188 million and employ 200 people during its 12-month construction before leveling out at 35 full-time employees.

By choosing Prineville, Facebook avoids paying about $2.8 million a year in taxes for 15 years, and can apply for other waivers as well. In addition, now Facebook has the cachet that comes with owning its own data center. And by spending a lot in up-front costs, it will be able to enjoy the benefits of a lower cost of ownership on whatever servers it places in the data center, thanks to the ability to control the entire environment. Over time, this saves Facebook money and could help it innovate to deliver a faster experience for end users.

Much like buying your own home rather than renting, becoming large enough to build your own data center is a big step in the life of a tech firm. However, Facebook could also be signaling that its wild growth over the last six years may be reaching a predictable and less torrid phase. It’s hard to commit to constructing a permanent data center if a company doesn’t know if it will need 50 or 500 new servers within the next year, but as growth becomes predictable it makes it easier to justify laying out the funds for permanent infrastructure and figuring out how much of that infrastructure the company needs. Sure a growing business could always add another data center, but building a single 100,000-square-foot data center costs far less than building two data centers of 50,000 square feet each.

Microsoft plans to expand Natal technology to TV

Earlier this year Microsoft unveiled the Project Natal at the E3, a gesture-recognition technology built for gamers of the Xbox 360 to give them a controller-free gaming and entertainment experience.

It wasn't long until Bill Gates expressed his views on this technology being incorporated into Windows PCs which would let users operate and work in the same gesture-based environment as seen in the movie 'Minority Report' for the very first time.

But that's perhaps not even a little of what Microsoft has in mind for Natal. According to Marc Whitten, the General Manager of Xbox Live, the Project Natal is expected to “be the largest leap of TV experience since the remote control".

I don't believe we are currently in the golden age of the television or the golden age of the game console or the golden age of the Internet; frankly, five years from now I don't know that you'll be able to tell the difference between those worlds.

Microsoft aims to make it easier for the users to find and share video content through their Xbox. The plan is to build a technology that is smart enough to recognize a user using appearance or voice and hence allow them to switch channels with the flick of a finger. No price of release date for Project Natal has been announced yet, but it will be available somewhere in the late 2010.

‘Missing’ persons

The Supreme Court has directed the government to furnish details of
Pakistanis handed over to the US. The court has been informed that
1,600 persons were missing in 2008 — of whom, 1,300 had been missing
since 2006-07.

Through
the columns of this newspaper, I would request the honourable chief
justice of Pakistan to trace two ‘missing’ persons who are very close
and dear to the people of this country. Our beloved ex-president Pervez
Musharraf and the ex-banker-cum-prime minister Shaukat Aziz have been
missing since long. Last time the ex-president was seen singing the
song “Lage re tou say lage, sajan sayan lage” (the clip can be watched
on YouTube) while the ex-prime minister enjoyed the melody sitting
among the audience.

David Blaine talks about his journey into Human Endurance

TEDMED 2009 hosted a talk by David Blaine the magician, he talks about his progress in trying to break the world record for holding his breath for 17 minutes and 4.4 seconds, which he successfully did on Oprah’s show. This TEDMED talk is worth a listen as it shows his constant commitment to achieve the unimaginable

Blackwater ‘IN’ Pakistan – Rehman Malik, Patterson & Clinton all LIED to the People of Pakistan

In an interview with Express News [transcript on DoD], Robert Gates confirmed in some clear terms that private security firms Blackwater and DynCorp are operating inside Pakistan. “They’re operating as individual companies here in Pakistan” – so technically by all counts this statement more or less proves that Anne Patterson, Hilary Clinton and Rehman Malik all have being LYING to the people of Pakistan. Where over the past few months they have one after the other vehemently denied the presence of Blackwater and its operatives in Pakistan. Rehman Malik is on record to quit. In an attempt to soften the blow the US Department of Defense is covering up their statement by that updating reporters that Mr. Gates had been speaking about contractor oversight more generally and that the Pentagon didn’t employ Xe in Pakistan – which we all know is yet another lie, since even Erik Prince, the founder of Blackwater, confessed to his organizations involvement in Pakistan barely a month back in the Vanity Fair article.

I can’t complain much if foreign agents like Anne Patterson and Hilary Clinton lied to our people, as they probably were protecting the interests of their own government, but what irks me is that our own Ministers (& President) knowingly continue to lie to their people literally selling our soul to the highest bidder and yet had the audacity to deny the real facts while our country continued to burn under our noses.

Guess it will be a fruitless exercise, but I call for an immediate resignation of Rehman Malik from the Ministry of Interior – I do not know if he is man enough to be called an honorable gentleman who might at least have the courtesy to honor his statement, or even have the respect to give a simple courtesy apology – but maybe that’s asking too much from a professional crook and a hard core liar

IPL Matches to be Live on YouTube

If your office allows streaming video, you can now cheer for your favorite Indian Premier League (IPL) team while you are working. Google has tied up with IPL for live streaming of matches on YouTube for an undisclosed sum.

Last year, YouTube had created an official video channel where the match highlights, opening ceremony, and award functions were shown, but it hadn’t streamed the matches even though it had the technology for that.

live streaming of sports events is a common practice in the West, and is generally in the paid format.

Considering the huge popularity of IPL, this initiative could, within two years, be targeted at the cricket-deprived people across the globe. Since cable television is expensive abroad, this could be a hit.

YouTube had had its first streaming of a live event when it showed a rock concert by the U2 band in November 2008.

Pakistan Army ‘Not Impressed’ With US Offered Drones

The disappointment is understandable since unlike the drones that fly and take out targets inside Pakistan’s Fata region, the ones being offered to Pakistan are unarmed and commonly used for intelligence gathering.
Later, when DG ISPR Major General Athar Abbas was asked about the overall weapons being provided to Pakistan for counterinsurgency and other military supplies, he remarked, “Too little, too late”.
It was US Defence Secretary Robert Gates who, in a meeting with the media at the residence of the US ambassador, said the US was enhancing Pakistan’s intelligence capabilities. He said the offer comes because Islamabad had requested for them. “We have a lot of information on the Afghan side that we share … we also help Pakistan build its own capacity. We will be providing them with UAVs (Shadow) together with equipment and training,” he said.

To a question whether the US was attaching any conditions to these UAVs, he replied, “I do not know”. In the past, the US was wary of passing on the drone technology to Pakistan as Islamabad could use it in areas other than it had specifically been given for.
One American journalist accompanying him asked about the possibility of stopping arms sale to India and Pakistan altogether. “We have to judge each country’s requirement on its own. We sell Pakistan F-16s and we sell India transport aircraft. We make a decision judiciously,” Gates replied.
Gates appeared relaxed with the questions being thrown at him by the local and US media but it was the ‘D’ word that he refused to entertain. Though several questions relating to US drones were asked, he shrugged them off and would not even give an answer as to whom in the US this question could be put.
When he said that there were no US bases inside Pakistan. he refused a reply when asked from where these US drones flew. Amongst the defence secretary’s aides in uniform that greeted the media before he arrived were those who offered their greetings in chaste Urdu and one of them also spoke excellent Pashto!
As if on cue, the Pakistan military’s announcement that it could not overstretch itself in fresh areas of operation also saw Gates admitting to a query that a ‘trust deficit’ existed. “There is responsibility on both sides. From the US side, we turned away from Afghanistan in 1989. We could have remained engaged but we did not even try. Then the Pressler Amendment brought an end to military-to-military conversation for 12 years when we had no contacts. We cannot rebuild trust through rhetoric,” he said.
Turning to the present moment, Gates said that the US was deeply impressed with Pakistan’s military operations and the level of activity and clearing of areas. “Very impressive. Pakistan is a sovereign state and makes its own decisions on future operations. The past year has been extraordinary. Let me put it this way. If we are in a car together, it is Pakistan in the driving seat with its foot on the accelerator. We are prepared to help and also express our condolences to the 3,000 Pakistani soldiers killed. General Kayani gave me a detailed briefing,” explained the defence secretary.
To a query about the Coalition Support Fund that has been held up and which Pakistan needs on an emergency basis, Gates replied, “It will come and we are also reviving $500 million deferred payment.”
He explained instances in the past where Pakistan’s procedures lacked proper documentation. “We are working with Pakistan on the documentation and will give it to Congress. We are working on it now and some people we are seeking to add to the US Embassy will help,” he said.
When a question of opening up dialogue with the Taliban inside Afghanistan was put to him, he replied, “Afghanistan has its own reconciliation and reintegration plan. It is how low-level Taliban can work in their own community. These are Taliban foot soldiers who work for money. As economic development proceeds and there is greater security, more and more foot soldiers will come back,” he pointed out. But he did not agree that there were any chances of the Taliban forming the next government in Kabul. However, he did say that there were conditions if they wanted a future political role.
“If the adversaries are willing to become part of the political fabric of Afghanistan and they are prepared to play a legitimate role, abide by the Constitution and recognise the Kabul government. What do the Taliban make of Afghanistan? It was a desert (during their last government). “Are they ready to rebuild?”
To several queries regarding the role of India in the region, Gates said that the last thing he wanted to avoid was another Mumbai-like attack. “We all have common enemies and in the past year they tried to destabilise Pakistan itself. We have regional problems that need regional cooperation,” he said.
He said the US was ready to play a constructive role between India and Pakistan and was well prepared. “In 1990 then President Bush sent me to the region and we made suggestions. Both parties do not want intervention and we are comfortable with that,” he said.
When told that with Kashmir unresolved, now more issues, like India’s role in Afghanistan, were leading to confrontation, Gates replied, “Al-Qaeda does not care about Kashmir. Kashmir is an issue for both sides.”
He said he was unaware that at the forthcoming London conference, a formal role would be offered to India. But he acknowledged that India had significant development programmes. Calling al-Qaeda a cancer, Gates did not mince his words when he said: “They are all bad”. Refusing to distinguish between the Pakistani Taliban, Afghan Taliban, al-Qaeda, Haqqani network and the various Lashkars, he said it would be a mistake to look at them individually.

PTCL Introduces WiFi Routers for DSL Customers

Pakistan Telecommunication Company Ltd (PTCL) is now giving WiFi routers to its broadband customers, for wireless connectivity.

If you don’t know, WiFi routers will act exactly as your DSL modems, however, with a difference that WiFi routers can broadcast wireless signals with limited coverage – that is sufficient for in-house use.

So if you use laptop or other wireless devices, such as IP cameras etc, you can ask PTCL for WiFi routers, instead of wired routers (DSL modems).

All this comes with additional rental of Rs. 200 per month. However, this service has no extra cost for broadband customers having Smart TV.

Tariff will be
1Mbps Broadband: Rs 1399
2Mbps Broadband: Rs 2199
4Mbos Broadband: Rs 5199

By the way, Link Dot Net is already providing WiFi routers to its customers with additional charge of Rs. 100 per month.

Towards Secular Pakistan

As we celebrate 62nd Independence Day of our great nation, all Pakistanis must loudly reject fundamentalism that is destroying our beloved nation. We can’t let the extremists, the jehadis, the suicide bombers destroy our lives. No more can we let them tie bombs to the belly of our youth…no more can we let them hide our women behind veil. No more can they deprive us of art, culture, science, and humanity. No more!

No more can we dilute our debate by blaming external conspiracies; imperial design, Zionist strategy, Hindutva resurgence etc. Our enemies are within… Jihadis are the enemies no matter what cause they represent; Palestine, Lebanon, Iraq, Iran, Afghanistan, Kashmir etc. No land, no territory, no nation, no state, no freedom, no independence can justify violence. No more can we tolerate those who preach voilence.

Majority of the Pakistanis like me have resigned ourselves to the fate of oppression. We have been fearfull of the extremists. Instead of outright rejecting the authority of religion in our daily lives, we acquiesce. No more can we surrender to the oppressive religious zealots of our society.

Celebrating Pakistan’s independence simply means celebrating the secular leadership of Quaid-e-Azam Mohammad Ali Jinnah; rationale guidance of Allama Iqbal, and the vision of Sir Syed Ahmed Khan.

If we want to make this great State of Pakistan happy and prosperous we should wholly and solely concentrate on the well-being of the people, and especially of the masses and the poor… you are free- you are free to go to your temples mosques or any other place of worship in this state of Pakistan. You may belong to any religion, caste or creed that has nothing to do with the business of the state… in due course of time Hindus will cease to be Hindus and Muslims will cease to Muslims- not in a religious sense for that is the personal faith of an individual- but in a political sense as citizens of one state
Quid-e-Azam Mohammad Ali Jinnah’s address to the Constituent Assembly of Pakistan, Karachi, August 11, 1947

In respect of Quiad, Allama and Sir Syed we must re-write our constitution. Our constitution must represent two principles; people belonging to different faiths and sections of society should be equal before the law, the constitution and government policy. Secondly, separation of state and religion. We must modify our constitution to limit the realm of validity of religion in the public arena and society.

We should recall what Allama Iqbal taught us: democracy does not become inclusive merely by giving everyone the right to vote; its institutions must be even-handed as well.

In memory of Sir Syed we should understand that the struggle against militancy should go beyond a security response to providing justice, economic and political, to all.

It’s time now to recognize that growth with welfare is the only long-term bet against religious extremism.

It’s time now to promote a way of thinking and living that aims to bring out the best in people so that all people can have the best in life.

It’s time now to reject authoritarian beliefs.

It’s time now to take responsibility for our own lives and the communities and world in which we live.

It’s time now to emphasize reason and scientific inquiry, individual freedom and responsibility, human values and compassion, and the need for tolerance and cooperation.

It’s time now to reject violence.

It’s time now to act!
